Grenade blast rocks DAR office in Bacolod City

Tension gripped the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) office in Bacolod City when a grenade lobbed by two unidentified suspects onboard a motorcycle exploded inside the compound before dawn Thursday.

GMA 7 television reported that the incident occurred between 2 and 3 a.m. inside the DAR compound along San Sebastian Street in Bacolod City.

Security guards at the DAR compound said they saw two men on motorcycles lob an object at the compound, which turned out to be a grenade.

Another report from radio dzBB said that while no one was reported injured in the incident, investigators said there is strong possibility that the incident was connected to a dispute between farmers and owners of a hacienda in Pontevedra town in Negros Occidental province.

The DAR was to conduct a survey of the contested hacienda Thursday.

The hacienda is reported to be under the government's comprehensive agrarian reform program.
